Pizza sauce is a classic and essential component of any great pizza, providing a tangy, savory, and delicious base for the toppings. This recipe typically features a blend of canned or fresh tomatoes, garlic, olive oil, and a variety of herbs and spices such as oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes.
To make pizza sauce, the tomatoes are typically crushed or pureed until they reach a smooth and consistent texture. Then, the garlic and olive oil are sautéed in a pan until fragrant and tender, before the tomato sauce and seasonings are added to the mixture. The sauce is then allowed to simmer over low heat for several minutes to allow the flavors to meld together and the sauce to thicken slightly.
Once the sauce has been prepared, it is ready to be spread on the pizza dough, creating the perfect foundation for the toppings. Pizza sauce can be customized to suit individual preferences, with some variations incorporating additional ingredients like anchovies, olives, or even red wine. Whether you prefer a classic marinara-style pizza sauce or something a bit more adventurous, this recipe is sure to satisfy your pizza cravings and elevate your homemade pies to the next level.
